Taxi in Frankfurt

Frankfurt is the business and financial district of Germany. It is the largest city in Hesse, one of Germany’s biggest states. Frankfurt is a city of extremes – it is a modern city known for its skyscrapers but it still has preserved its old, well-maintained buildings showcasing German culture in its theaters, museums and galleries. Romer square, which is the downtown area, and the museums near the River Main are visited by millions of tourists every year.

Because of the many business activities and events in the city, Frankfurt is considered Germany’s largest traffic hub. Most of Germany’s autobahns and railways intersect and interconnect in Frankfurt. It is the gateway to Germany and for most travelers, the initial point of entry to Europe. It is the main transport hub for travel within Europe and for intercontinental flights.

Getting to the City
Frankfurt Airport is one of the busiest international airports in Europe. Business and leisure travelers will find that there are various ways to get to the city center from the airport.

Travelers can be connected to the city by rail, bus or taxi.
If you wish to take a taxi, from the arrival hall, follow the signs to a taxi rank in front of both terminals. A taxi in Frankfurt airport can bring you to the city center in 20-30 minutes.







Public transportation such as bus, tram, S-Bahn and U-Bahn services are also available in Frankfurt. The airport’s two terminals are linked to the elevated Sky-Line railway. Tourist information is provided at the DB Service Point located in Terminal 1, Level 0, Hall B. The S-Bahn rail service takes only 11 minutes to bring you to the city.

There are free hotel shuttle buses that run regularly to the airport. However, there are no public airport buses that go to the city center. Hotel bus stops are located outside the Arrivals Hall at Terminal 1 and outside the check-in hall at Terminal 2.

Getting around Frankfurt by taxi
It is not difficult to find a taxi in Frankfurt. Taxi services are abundant in the city and since the city is not so big, the taxi rates are reasonable. A taxi driver in Frankfurt drives fast because most German businessmen expect them to drive this way. Leisure travelers can tell the driver to slow down so they can see the sights.

A taxi in Frankfurt will charge by the trip and carload using their taximeter. They do not charge based on the number of bags that you carry. Taxis are usually beige Mercedes Benz cars with the word “TAXI” on top of their cars. It is not always easy to hail a taxi from the streets; some of them stop but others will pick up passengers from the city’s designated taxi stands, outside hotels or train stations.

You can also try the human-powered “bike taxis” that are located in the main tourist areas. They can fit one or two passengers. For those who get tired of walking, this can be a convenient way of touring the city.
